Best Bibs for Baby-Led Weaning

I’m working with a new BLW baby this week and we just finished her first day of solid foods.
Baby Brayden is 6 months + 2 weeks, sitting pretty but was NOT into trying any foods today.

Brayden’s mom and I were talking about how that is typical and there’s no rush and no need to force things…but also, what could we do to help Baby Brayden feel more comfortable at the table?

One tip is to get your baby accustomed to sitting in their high chair, even before you start solid foods. Offer an empty open cup or BLW spoon for your baby to play and bang with, just to get used to sitting in the chair.

Brayden’s mom was also sharing that at home she was trying on a silicone bib and the baby kept pulling and ripping at it. Some of those silicone trough bibs can weigh up to a pound and be a real burden on your tiny baby’s neck.

Other bibs that claim to “erase the mess” of BLW are in fact huge, tent like contraptions that severely restrict your baby’s range of motion at mealtimes 🚫.

The bibs I use for BLW are called Bapron Bibs and I love them for baby-led weaning for a few reasons:

  • Baprons are made from lightweight waterproof material and they are sleeveless so they don’t weigh your baby down or restrict their range of motion

  • You can rinse these bibs under the faucet and wring them out and dry on your drainboard to use for the next meal…saving tons of laundry

  • The bapron bibs tie in the back under your baby’s shoulder blades - not all up in their neck which can be a negative sensory experience

I love to gift Bapron bibs and a splashmat to all of my friends and family starting BLW. The bibs are always so cute and such a hit, and the splashmat is something nobody ever thinks they need…and then LOVES!

My affiliate discount code KATIE10 to work for an extra 10% off on top of the 2 or 3-Bapron baby bib bundle discount.

For babies 6 months - 2 years get the Bapron “Toddler” size and then at 2 years I size up to “Preschool” baprons.

The splashmats go under your baby’s high chair. These are perfect for minimizing the mess and they are so durable…don’t mess around with any other mats, these are the deal!!

Bapron is also a mom owned company! Founder Kelsey has been on the podcast Ep 118 Why I Built a Better Bib with Bapron Baby Founder Kelsey Larsen.

Kelsey is awesome and such a problem solver. You can listen to that episode here

I know the mess can be a bit of a deterrent to doing BLW, but your baby is learning and gaining confidence as they’re exploring food. Bapron definitely makes it much less of a headache to clean up though :)
